How I Work

While all copy jobs are unique, my general step-by-step approach works for most projects. This is a great snapshot of the process if you've never worked with me (or any freelancer).

Discovery Call

We'll kick things off with a 15-minute discovery call, where we can get an idea of the scope of the work and whether we're a good fit for one another.

I'll send you a short briefing template to complete that asks things like:

~ What form of copy do you need? Website? Email? Social? The lot?

~ How many words or pages of copy do you need?

~ Who is your target audience? What do you already know about them?

~ What are your marketing objectives? What are you hoping to achieve with this copy?

~ When do you need this project completed?

2

Proposal & Quote

Once I have this information, I can provide a detailed proposal and quote. I'll send over a snazzy proposal document outlining the project definition and objectives, the scope of work, timings, costs and my Terms and Conditions.

3

First Payment

I charge 50% of the total project fee upfront. After receiving the first payment, I can begin weaving my word magic!

4

Detailed Project Briefing

I like to use an hour for briefing to discuss all the nitty gritty details we may not have had time for during the discovery call. Whilst I love an in-person catch-up over coffee or a Zoom call, we can do this over the phone or via email if you prefer.

This is a great time to cover branding/brand personality, tone of voice, essential background information and relevant competitor information.

5

Skeleton Deck and Sample Approval

I want you to have as much say in the process as you need. Before I write your first draft, I'll send over a 'skeleton' of your copy deck so you can approve the content. This will likely be in bullet point form, and its main purpose is for fact-checking and spotting any missing information that you'd like to be in there.

Once you've given the green light, I'll send you a small sample of the copy to approve. This is to confirm that I'm heading in the right direction with your tone of voice, language choices and the general vibe of the copy.

6

Drafts & Amends

Hoorah! We've nailed the content and tone of voice. Next, the first complete draft of your project will land in your inbox.

Now it's over to you to read through the copy and provide feedback. All jobs come with two free rounds of amends; additional rounds of amends are billed at an hourly rate.

7

Final Payment

Job complete! I'll send you a final invoice for the outstanding project fee.

8

Project Sign Off

I like to conclude my projects with an official sign-off. I'll send over a short end-of-project survey where you can provide feedback on your experience working with me.
